Description:
MSA invites kids and adults to create God's Eyes and other projects based on Native American and Mexican Indian traditions on Saturday, June 19, 1:00-3:00. The God's Eye (Ojo de Dios) is a simple weaving made across two sticks and is thought to have originated with the Huichol Indians of Jalisco, Mexico. The four points represent earth, fire, air, and water. According to tradition, when a child is born, the central eye is woven by the father, and one "eye" is added for every year of the child's life until the child reaches the age of five.
The project will be led by Jennifer Lane and David Hollander on Saturday, June 19, 1:00-3:00. Pre-registration is not required and visitors to Marfa are welcome.
In addition, young children will be able to paint stones and pepples with simple images inspired by traditional Native American symbols. Older children and teens should select their own smooth, flat river rock or stone to bring with them. We will have some smooth stones available as well.
MSA is located at 106 East San Antonio. Contact: Ellie [email protected]; 729-4616 or Jen Lane at 729-3292.
